Anwar has arrived!

Hasnaa is now a mama!!! I will post pictures tomorrow....darn curfew!

Wow! Amazing things are happening here in Egypt! ESMA!!!! in action!!!

This morning I wasn't going to go to see my horses as I was in great pain (MS does that to you!) But I got dressed and grabbed my camera and bag and off I went.  I thought maybe I would have news that the new foal arrived. No, I wasn't so lucky with that little miracle but I was lucky enough to witness another miracle!

ESMA!!!! in action!!!
You can find them on Facebook!

Here is some of what I witnessed! Truly a miracle!

Checking the feed.
 Suzie and Beth.
This is the first truck load of feed for the starving horses.

Members of ESMA taking their own pictures of these starving animals.
Some of the horses that received feed.
I also have videos but most of them are in Arabic.
If you listen .... you can hear cats wanting food too.

Today Hasnaa is four years old!

Today is Hasnaa's birthday.  She is four years old.

Today I went to see my horses and to celebrate with Hasnaa. I made a batch of treats for her using molasses and oats. She gobbled it down and all the while I was petting and hugging her. She gave me a little whinny to thank me. Her belly has dropped so she is getting really close to having her foal. I can hardly wait!

Before Hasnaa became pregnant she would act like a stallion and all fully of herself. The stable boys nicknamed her "Hosni". And once she was in foal she got her name back. Hasnaa means beautiful in Arabic. She is a beauty!

I took picture of all my horses. These are just some of today's photos.

Food for the horses has arrived!

I called Mr. Hassan this morning and he told me that food for the horses has arrived. Oh what a relief!

I was going to go and see my horses but two things stopped me. The first is my husband said that if I go I would need to cover my blond hair.... no way! (that is for going to the Haj only)  I know it is for my safety but I am not going to use a scarf to cover my hair...I am an American and I can speak enough Arabic to speak my mind and tell people I have given almost 30 years to living in Egypt. The second thing that stopped me is a water main broke and the street is flooded and traffic is backed up. Good thing we have well water!

We are still waiting for Hasnaa to bring her new foal into the world. Her due date was on Jan 31. Hopefully it will arrive soon. I don't know if it will be a filly or a colt... I have been thinking of the names that I could use to name the newborn. It is hard to decide but one thing that I am sure of is the first colt will be called Anwar. This is due to respect for my parents in law. I used my father in law's family name for my stud farm and I decided to name the first colt after my mother in law's family name. If it is a filly I don't know yet what her name will be. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I have three other mares that are in foal so I really need to think of many names. I am thinking of making a poll for naming Gamilla's foal that is due April 20th, 2011. I will post that soon.

Worried about my horses

Dear friends,
As the days go by and things are getting worse I am worried for my horses. To me they are part of history. They are like those artifacts in the museum which was heartbreaking to see that they have been damaged and now that there were men on horseback and camels there may be people that now see them in a bad light.

We are still waiting for the new foal to arrive as the due date has come and gone.

I thank Mr. Hassan for protecting all of the horses. He has said it is getting harder to find food for them. Bless his heart. This isn't like playing farmville where you can ask your friends to send you what you need. These days it is hard to tell who your friends are and what they may do.

God please protect what you have created.
